Weight discrimination at work is a real thing!
It shouldn’t be happening but the reality tells a different story.
I was reading a recent study from the University of Florida, in which it was stated that employees that are overweight or obese are less likely to advance in work opportunities.
Women are ones mainly discriminated about their weight and according to the study overweight women are also likely to receive 10% less pay than the normal weight peers.
A similar study published in the Frontiers of Psychology reveals that individuals –mostly women –that are overweight have even greater difficulties to get hired for a job.
What comes out from both studies is that weight plays a very important role in a person’s career. Women with weight issues are less likely to get promoted, get a raise or get in a managerial position. In general overweight employees are perceived as lazy and less competent and need to work much harder as the normal weight peers to prove themselves.
This type of discrimination is present and going stronger. Do you have any thoughts on this? I would like to know your opinion.
